National Lampoon's Animal House
The first of a series of college party movies, but by no means the least developed. A backhanded compliment to the sub genre is that the movies are so primitive the oldest movies have as much enjoyment as the newest ones. I don't deny Animal House out of unwarranted arrogance. Better comedies with a lower grade of humor do exist, but if Animal House removed the nudity and swears, the graphic content level would be PG level. I'm also not sure the college scene makes a good subject for comedies anyways. The identity of the party animal is so old and recognizable that it can be enshrined in the museum of cliches. Comedies about other subjects have the ability to be more satirical and open to different characterization. The mold Animal House created for college movies is still the mold today. The only difference seems to be in level of drug content, but as far as comedy genres go, the college movie is surprisingly boring.
